I am confused-I know the troy X-2 was made by troy but not the three or the X-5.
I know you can change coils with the tesoro but can you change the X-2 with tesoro coils.
One more thing- Is there a big difference between the three. Some want in the middle $200 for the X-2 and then the X-3 around $400.
$200 MORE for the X-3 seems a lot.

I want one bit don't know which to choose-hunting mostly yards and parks and occasional beach (fresh water)
thanks

Not at all a guru, but know a little. The x2 was made by Tesoro and Tesoro umax coils will interchange. It is pretty much a modified Tesoro Silver. The x3 and x5 were made by Fisher, but no Fisher or x2 coils will interchange.

With the original Troy X2 you were just buying a standard Tesoro with a different paint job and Troys modified coil design.

The extra performance came in with the X3 and X5 which was all Troys design which with Fishers build quality, a rain/dust proof control box, nice creak free shaft etc was an excellent detector but at a rather high price.
Its best to get the X5 for its extra features especially the ground balance if you have difficult ground. The drawback compared to the Tejon (the nearest similar Tesoro) is the lack of coils (only three) and as they are no longer in production there's little chance of any third party ones coming out.

While not a Guru by any chance, just folks that are well seasoned with the x-2. Bobbie has 9 years with it I have 11. Like above noted the x-2 was made for troy by tesoro, can use all the micro max coils. for example I use the 5.75 coil on mine all the time. Bobbie still prefers the standard 7" coil
it was produced from around 1998-2001 maybe 2000
any questions about how it operates just pm me
