I am an old mechanical engineer in western Mississippi (near the Mississippi River), and I joined specifically to ask for help in figuring out what this is.
It is a piece of gravel with an apparent raised image on the surface.
The 3 circles in the middle are raised and so is the entire perimeter of the irregular shape.
Notice how the raised perimeter wraps around the bottom of the rock.
I have seen lots of fossils in limestone in other parts of Mississippi, but all of the gravel that I have seen is smooth due to the millions of years of erosion.
It was found locally, but I have no idea where it originated. We have gravel pits in the area, and they don't haul dumptruck loads of gravel long distances; so it probably came from a local gravel pit..
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks.
