Is this a hand axe, It's pretty rough I thought it was but thought I'd check with the experts.

Like quito said, it could be one and it could also be a large cobble that they had just started to flake and never finished. Does the edge show any evidence of being used?

looks like a crude chopper to me.

Looks to be a sweet chopper, love the material and the way it looks. Maybe they started to take flakes off to make it something other than a chopper but then they realized it was too perfect as a chopper, hahaha. I have found some similar looking made out of chert cobble in Austin, TX... That's a large one. I can see the indention so the palm or hand will fit in comfortably. Ask yourself, does it fit to the hand well enough to make work simple. Nice find...

Abarnard, that makes perfect sense, that they started to chip it because I find a few heads and such made out of this material, but it fits in your hand like a glove.
