Found in SW Virginia on bank of James River, Botetourt County. Saw something similar in a state park exhibit which said it was a peg but did not specify if it was Native American or Colonial or what it was used for. Is this anything? "Rock" is 4 inches long.

:hello: Welcome Robin to TNET!

I would say that your item is a curiously shaped odd natural rock.

Can you see anywhere on it where it has been worked by man or just nature?

I think the item you might be thinking of is the Indian spud, Robin.
They show quite a bit of refinement and finishing however.

Yours looks natural in the pictures, but would be the type of rock they would be on the lookout for to start making one.
