Hard to say without photos of the concrete pillar. Might have been a property corner marker or a home-made type of grounding device. Or part of a fence anchor. You would need to take more photos and give a few more details, without giving away the location of your site. Right now, based on the information you have included, I'd say that it is probably NOT a treasure sign. What makes you think it could be? Are you thinking the nail is made of gold or silver or some other precious metal? More info, please.

Dear treasure tales, the only thing i can thing is the nail isn't round, and i never see a nail of these kind, and there's a x,or cross mark on top of the head, and the metallic color that start to expose shinny and looks hard metal the concrete was 6 inch dia.meter, round, 18 inch long we found it in the field on our property the area was flat field with lots of coconut tree, and on top of the concrete there's a big letter S on top line next line on the middle that was the nail stick on only the head expose, next line on the bottom is # 218 THANKS Ed

I agree with TreasureTales. It's probably a property marker.

From your description of the concrete where you found it that it is a corner marker for Section 218 of a land survey. Monty

yep, corner marker or an elevation benchmark.

"A benchmark is a point of reference for a measurement. In surveying a benchmark is a geodetic control point set by a surveyor to mark a point of known vertical elevation. These reference points may be chiseled into a wall, or marked by small brass or aluminium disks, concrete posts, iron pins or bolts that are permanently attached to a stable foundation."

cheers,

The 'chemical' coating is probably from a reaction between the nail and the chemicals in the cement mix
