Ok so I was metal detecting at an old park today that is also used for festivals. One reason I chose this place is because they have pirate festivals there. Ya know, when people dress up and stuff but also wear some really nice coin necklaces and sell actual artifacts ! So I get this hit and its ringing like a 19-20 so I'm thinking penny...but when I got it out it clearly surprised me. It's the size of a nickel, definitely copper and thin like a dime. Could it be an old flat button? A spanish cob?! Please anyone that has any idea or has seen something like this I'd love to know! Thanks guys!

Hard to say...to me I don't think you'll ever be able to get a concrete ID. I don't think it's a button or a cob, though.

I can't see any evidence that it is a coin. The crack leads me to think it is a copper alloy. I'm guessing it is a flat button that had a soldered shank and the solder popped off. If so, that would put it at the turn of the 19th C give or take a decade or two.

It's definitely roached, but my eyes see the outline of a head facing left on the coin reverse. Depending on the size it could be an 18th century British halfpenny
