Hi;
One of the neat things about this wonderful hobby of ours is finding things you didn't even know existed from "olden" times. Yesterday I was down by a salt creek fishing where the tide has been undermining the bank and dropping trees in the water providing nice structure for the fish. I just happened to notice a white square object in the roots of a downed tree and at first almost passed it by thinking it was a small chunk of Styrofoam carried in by the tide. Looking closer I noticed it was a piece of milk glass and assumed it must be some sort of salve or makeup container. Talking with some folks on FB they suggested it may be an open salt cellar. It is 1.25" long, 1" wide, 5/8" deep. The bowl is about 3/8 deep. No markings other than typical swirl marks on the back side from when it was poured.
Is this a salt cellar and if so anyone have any idea of it's age?
Item is white but I took low light shots to enhance the features:
