Is this buckle possibly colonial?

Found this past weekend at a mid 1800's mill. I'm guessing a child's shoe buckle. The Canadian quarter is for size reference.

Looks like a circa 1790 knee buckle to me. Nice find

Thanks for the help and the photo of the different types! I don't see an exact match but it definitely resembles some of them. :thumbsup:

The owner of the mill said he thought there may have been some activity there in the late 1700's.

I think your right, it’s a small shoe buckle, although hat buckle might be another option

I found half of one similar from a 1730 sawmill
