I recently unearthed this 6" diameter metallic wheel at a 2 foot depth right next to the foundation of a late 1600s homesite. Since the site used to be a cultivated field my initial thoughts were this was just from some relatively modern farm equipment. But the green patina makes me think it's older. I seriously doubt it's colonial, but if anyone knows what this is and how old it might be please chime in. Thanks.

Could be from a clothes line!.....Joe McDonough

I agree that it looks like a rim minus the solid rubber tire for a child's wagon or tractor but it may also have been used on farm equipment as a guide or leveling wheel!

If it's for a toy wagon or peddle car, I would think the hard rubber tire should still be there, although I agree that's what it looks like, I'm more inclined to towards a pulley, something like that.

Might be from a seed spreader the flared out part would have flung out the seed, the bottom hole was the attaching point, looks wobbled out.(worn out)
