im no expert on fakes but the holes i've heard can be an indication, however those could be from any number of things.

another way to check is to look at the edge, the strike marks should be even i guess? A guy at my local pawn shop i've bought a couple times from showed me a fake and they weren't even at all.

But, i'd say the ultimate test if it weighs out and all is to "clang it" , it won't sound like the others if its fake.

as for acid testing , i dont know how to do that.

What do you mean by "strike marks?" Thanks for the info.

Just a guess here, but I'd say the "holes" are where it was attached to some sort of bezel in a jewelry piece.

Drop it on a table. If it sounds like silver, it likely is.

i've seen coins like these before
this coin most likely was used in a jewelry piece, as a pendant, and was held in a bezel (in 2 opposite points) which explains the missing reeds (where it was pressed against the ring).
90% of the fake coins would not weigh right. and if the width and diameter of the coin is correct, i'd be 99.9% sure it's legit

Thanks guys. Yeah the size is right, the weight is within a 10th of a gram of my others, and no reaction to a magnet.

I agree that it is most likely legitimate and the holes are from use in jewelery. If it weighs right, sounds right, and doesn't attract a magnet and is a common date it is 99.99% most likely real. No counterfeiter is going to go through the time and trouble to counterfeit a perfect common-date peace dollar and make it out of stuff that weighs the same as silver. If this was a key date, I might be a bit more suspicious because there have been counterfeits of key dates made out of silver, so you'd have to check die varieties but for a common date, it is legit.

take a plastic walmart bag, put the peace dollar inside, then hold the bag at the top, take a hammer and lightly tap it while its "suspended". It should let off a nice "ping" if it is silver, if its a fake it will sound dull.

Maybe a belt buckle dollar. A couple tabs might keep it from spinning around when the wearer moved.

I vote "legit"

This isn't a coin I found hunting. This was a private transaction. I haven't found anything amazing crh'ing. Some mercury's, rosy's, a bf, a walking lib. I just started in april though.

I do have a picture of the best coin my friend that got me into this ever found...

This is the coin that got me into crh'ing.
