Was digging (yes on December 25th in MA) and found this medallion between 6 and 8 inches at an old school, nowhere near built in 1830. It is silver and dated 1830. Not sure how they made things like this in 1830 but all opinions are helpful and wanted. Thanks in advance!

Don't know any history, but it is a great find.

1830 was when the miracle took place for the Saint on it.

A bit of baking soda would do that wonders, being malleable it can be straightened out pretty good too.

GOD Bless

Chris

It definitely says 1830. Cool find.

Thank you Chris!

Nice piece. I think religious medals, rosaries and crucifixes are really special, imbued with some measure of faith by those who wore them and drew comfort from them, even if I am Presbyterian.

1830 was put on that style...my guess its age to be late 50's to mid 60's due to the border and pantena

Thanks Thumper! The school was built in the 50's so the time period fits!

THATS A NICE ONE ....

kinonimo,

1830 is the year that a miracle happened and not the date when these were made.....I've found a few of them over the years.

Bill

in 1830 a very devout nun had a "vision" of the "mother mary" --Christ's mother --who told her how to pray the rosary * to celebrate the event of this "miracle" ..a medal was made -- its refered to as a "miracle medal" of st mary --the year 1830 has been put upon the medal from the beginning in 1830 until now --it is a catholic medal ...(being catholic myself --I know)
