is your excal just for water?

Bomber.....I use my Xcal mostly in the water...occasionally on the beach...never tried it in the dirt....Sov GT on the beach and land hunting...GT seems to be more sensitive to small gold...and goes a little deeper than my Xcal ....thats why I'm in the process of building a waterproof case for the GT....I think it will make one of the best 3way detectors around (water/beach/land) I'll know soon ..........Rdi

I use to use my Excal on land hunting parks and playgrounds, it worked fine, found several rings. Only real problem was it was a little heavy for land hunting all day.

Goodluck on water proofing your Sov. I have 2 Sov GT's with WOTs, one is water proofed, I think the Sov is a fantastic detector, especially when combined with the WOT coil................I am really looking forward to this years hunting season with my new waterproofed Sov....... ;D

Bomber,

My Excalibur is for beach and water and for land is the Explorer SE.

For me....I use my Excal for both land and water, but mainly for water. Now, I use my DFX for land and water, but mainly for land. A lot of times I want to give my arms a rest from the Excal, so I will switch to my DFX....just making very sure that I don't get the box wet. On the other hand, there are times that I have used the Excal on land because it nulls out iron quickly....plus I'm trying to learn both machines to their fullest capabilities.

so the dfx is lighter than an excal?i thought it was lighter

IMHO, the DFX is lighter. But, I just changed over to the straight shaft for my Excal, so I haven't hunted very much in this mode. Now.....Sandman and others have come up with a chest mounted belt for the Excal, which is really a neat way of doing it. With Sandman & Company's chest mount, the controls are in front. With a hip mount, I felt like I couldn't make any quick adjustments without "thinking".

Now......with all of that said and done, let me qualify my statements by saying that even after a year with the Excal, I'm still a newcomer with it. So.....there are a ton of more experienced folk out there than I am.

Water only. I have two other machines for land use.
