It finally happened today.
I found a Connecticut Copper. My first Copper. From the "CONN", the curve of the nose, the angle of the jowl and George II facing left, I have determined it to be a 1787, predating our Constitution. The coin is now undergoing an olive oil treatment. When the treatment is done I will post a picture. The weather today was nasty. It was cold and windy but we endured, persevered and overcame.
For me, this is what the hobby is all about.
I have found gold and platinum rings and many silver coins. Even in its poor condition, those finds pale in comparison to the feeling of finding a coin like this. The coin was found in Dover, Delaware. In 1787 the population of Dover was under 2000. There is a good possibility that this coin passed through the hands of the founders of our Republic.
I cannot imagine a better Christmas present.
