A few weeks ago I found a Royal Provincial (loyalist) Rev War uniform button in a creek that runs through a very old plantation. Yesterday I returned to the creek for more Aquachigger style hunting. My hope was to find another uniform button, but unfortunately that wasn't in the cards.

What I did find however was a complete 18th century keg tap in amazing condition, less than 20 yards above the spot where I found the RP button . It is completely intact other than the handle. I have read that the handles were locked away when not in use to prevent theft of the keg contents-I guess they really liked their ale!

A few minutes later I found another sign of the occupation by the British army-a nice dropped .69 caliber round ball. Other finds for me were pretty diverse-a period door hinge, spike, Native American and colonoware (slave) pottery, and even a fossilized bison tooth and deer antler piece.

At the end of the day I was pretty tired so I "tapped out" and drove home. It was a lot of work but well worth the effort.

That's awesome! ...Maybe you'll get lucky (again!) and find a handle. Otherwise, they're probably available for purchase.

That is my kind of relic! Congratulations on that keeper. Thank you for sharing this with us.

That is a great looking tap! I appreciate your knowledge on the pottery as well. I did notice the native American cordage pattern. Looks like your site had many, many years of occupation. A good site was recognized by man for thousands of years sometimes. It must have a good water source is my guess.
Nice tap best I have seen.

Thanks man!
I actually found the creek a couple of years ago when I was fossil hunting, before I owned a metal detector. I have found auriculatus shark teeth there from the Eocene epoch-54 million years ago. It's absolutely my favorite site.

nice find!
I have the broken off outlet for that exact tap. I am still hoping to find the rest of it someday. LOL

Thanks Tom. The tap is preserved so well because it (presumably) laid on the creek bottom for over 200 years vs. being buried in the ground.

Nice digs Glenn, glad to see that site still producing- managed a short hunt but man was it toasty

Thanks. A creek in the woods is a nice place to be when it's really hot.

Wow, that's nice! I want to find one of those. My brother found a pewter one this year that looked like it was just dropped.

Very well done DND. That tap is in excellent condition!
