I got this necklace today. I don't think the clasp is silver, cuz it's not marked. I am not sure if the clasp is just decorated or it's writing or a makers mark. These marks are different on each side. It came in a jar of vintage jewelry today.

it's very cold, and one jeweler looked at it and said it was Jade, but not a good one.

Oh, that picture was taken in my car with the sun beating down. Here's a better one. (I can't rotate the picture; sorry)

Thanks for the pic.

It really looks like Adventurine up close. There is a tiny bit of sparkle in the stone. Jade doesn't sparkle. Adventurine is quartz with a little bit of fine mica in it. The mica is green biotite mica in the best Adventurine but most Adventurine sold isn't actually green until it's dyed.

Not the best of tests but jade will not break when hit with a hammer. Jade is the toughest natural mineral substance on earth. Jade should have a distinct ring when tapped with solid metal. Adventurine will make a *tink* sound, more like glass, or possibly even break. As Tess pointed out Jade normally maintains a cooler temperature than it's surroundings.

I'll run it by a second jeweler, since I am anywhere going there today. It is very cold, but I am so bad with stones. I can't tell the difference between glass and stone, although I can recognize plastic. I thought adventurine was a little blueish, not at all on the totally green side. Almost like a turquoise in color.

there is more than one type of stone that goes by the word jade, values are all over the place too.
