Just the rounded end of this was sticking out, thought it was a little piece of slate and I am drawn to darkgrey/blue rocks. Then I thought it was a blade but then there is the peg is sticking through. I wondered why it's rusty all over but not the rounded end, it is flaking though. There is a piece of wood still attached on one side around the peg. The end of a handle that use to have a wood surround and the other end is broken off?

The metal looks like pewter. Possibly the remains of a mid to late 19th C piece of flatware handle.

I think knife handle also.

that was my best guess too, pretty sure that's what it is. Out in the field by a water pump, I've found other flatware but all stainless and immediately recognizable. alright thanks for the input.

I would say it is a handle of some sort, maybe for something else though, not just a knife.
