Looks like tough going, but nice to wind up with a keeper!

Nice way of ending the hunt, and a great way of sucking you back there for another hunt.

Just keep in mind, Jeff. Sometimes, a single, totally corroded find is just a tempter. Might be best to wait a while, see when the next crop comes in. ;)

Isn't it just plain funny? What people call a "keeper" anymore. Keep for .....what? To proudly show & tell what it USED to be? LOL

WTG Dave. The coin is telling you that there's more to be unearthed. GL & HH

When Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to the presidency in 1932,
he initiated the Works Projects Administration.
W.P.A. built a tennis court south of the ball diamond.

Ud.webp

The courts were rarely used and the area was later planted in trees.

Untitle.webp

I may try that area Tomorrow

Yep, one lil corroded....."hook-line & sinker"

Need any help tomorrow? ;)

lol I should be there by 10 am :laughing7:

Actually, (unless you have one of those "guaranteed silver hunts" that seem to be the rage nowadays), I think that almost 200 miles just might be pushing my "fishing" limit a bit. ;) I'll be there in spirit though! LOL

HaHa yea I need a few Guaranteed silver hunts too :laughing7: Unfortunately the only way to Guarantee
anything is to hand it to Me :laughing7:

Nice score on the nickle, the copper will add up if you save it..

Jeff.you always post interesting pictures. It is too bad that old coin was quite toasted.

to the side where ball diamond isthe trail in the little spot of trees looks to be a outhouse ?

yea at first I thought Penny it was so thin, but after I re-ran it under the coil
it still read nickle range. so I thought maybe token.
I couldn't see anything til got home here & wet it.
then I could see the stars , the Crown & liberties nose.
I didn't see the date till I took & viewed the Pics.

So far that's 2 1800's coins & a sterling ring that may date close .
But they are not plentiful.
there is allot of weeds, and trees to fight with :(

May Be :dontknow: there was a Big Old tree there , about 5 years ago they cut it down.
there is also a creek of sorts that ran north to south there.
now just a Pipe with Dirt covering it, but the water never runs there anymore.
perhaps an old spring that dried up.

The Homestead sat in that general Area of the Big Tree.

The Barn South East of it circled in blue

Ud.webp

is now an eating stand where they have a yearly father son breakfast.
I believe the Square in front of the Barn may have been the First Ball field,
going by the History that is the general area where it was.

that is now Kiddie toys Like a Jungle Jim

You always have the best looking spots Jeff. Thanks for sharing the history of them with us and finally saying what the old coin was lol. I just couldn't make out enough detail to tell.

Perhaps This will Help.
WD-40 & A thumb Rub :tongue3:

I'm leaning towards 1888 But not sure enough to call it
