Got back out to a couple sites that have been producing as of late. Was able to pull my first "V" Nickel! 1907! Was also able to snag a nice '47 Quarter and '38 merc along with usual wheats and a nice surprise Indian (also 1907).
The nickel was basically found by accident I think. Was getting a higher pitch tone that I thought probably was deep iron and after digging down found several corroded pieces of nail (the type that has corroded to the "black" thread piece, those who know understand what I mean) but I noticed the V nickel amongst the iron and was pleasantly surprised as there were no indications of a 12-12 on the etrac while I was digging the iron out.
The indian was found beneath a scraped out pond area (thanks!) and clearly had been submerged for a bit of time. Thought it was just a surface zinc but as the first 6 inches had been removed I had to dig even the zinc signals. Thankfully the Indian was right there!
Happy hunting!
