Well we have a key and a date of 1816 on the large cent. This is the first
year for the "coronet" type so I'll call it a "personal keydate." This matron is pretty tough looking but anyone who survived 202 years would be. Surprised to get a date as these woods were not kind to her. I found both of these in about 15 minutes which made my day. Then I swept the forest fruitlessly for 4 hrs! Can't complain it was a good time for me! Love being out there... just me the woods...and the treasure!

I love woods hunting as well, usually its just shotgun shell.. 22 shell... shotgun shell..
but its relaxing

Both very cool finds. Thanks for the pics!

Neat finds...

Great saves, we have to wait a little longer before we can get into the woods, need a bit of cold weather to kill out the undergrowth.

A Super great day even with the 4 hour lull.

Thank you! My first thought was skeleton key when I found it because I've never found one detecting. It's actually hollow and called a barrel key. They were in use at the same time in history. I'm guessing mine went to a piece of furniture but who knows.

Congratualtions on the beautiful old key and old copper! :occasion14:

It's starting up here. I've been going to this spot since the summer so it's amazing to see the difference. It's way more conducive to detecting now.
