I found this at an early 1800's house site in New Hampshire in the forest far from any traveled roads of this day. Only a rock walled cellar hole remains. I believe the find is brass, at the least it is a non-ferrous metal. It is heavy for it's size. The slot edges are beveled as to make it easier to insert a key. The overall thickness is 5/16 inch and diameter is 1 1/4 inches. I think the find is an escutcheon that would be inserted in a door to function as a receiver for a large key.

Looks like the top to a barrel tap where the key went in.
