I'm still trying to find trhe route used through the deciduous marshes to the colonial salt works. Not any closer today. The few things I pulled out were very deep, 10" or more; one tombac broken button, either a small shoe buckle or hat buckle (thick wire that runs the length is missing) and this chain. I haven't cleaned the chain yet, but it was gilt and has remains of gilding left on a few links, and it has what seems to be the remains of a watch key on it's end.

WTG on the old finds hopefully you'll find it sooner than later!!

Hi golddiver. Yes, it does resemble a horse's bridle chain and that is what I first thought when I saw it in the hole. It isn't one however.
