I’ve knapped flint for many yrs. Compared to lapidary, knapping is incredibly wasteful. You create mtns of debitage that you have to get rid of somehow. I threw my debitage in a ravine in my woods. Lately I’ve been doing lapidary work and wondered if any debitage was worth polishing. I went to the ravine with a rake and dug up some junk flint.
This material is heated Kaolin from So IL. I picked a piece with nice color and ground one side flat, then made a 30X22mm cab from it.
Not bad coming from the trash pit! I’ll be digging up more it looks like.
