Here is another Onondaga chert surface find from Finger Lakes Region of Central New York: What interests me about this piece is the way it has been sharpened all the way around; not only were the tip and mid-blade edges flaked to the point of looking serrated, but the base has also been worked to the point of being serrated and very sharp. Any part of this piece would cut your evening's pork chop.
So, how would this have been used? It's awfully sharp to have been be held in the user's hand, and it's awfully sharp to have been hafted into a wooden handle.
Overstreet's lists a type they call a "Tennessee Saw" that looks like it has a serrated edge all the way around it. How would a 'saw' have been used? Hand held? Thanks!
