well like usual I had no where to go, so I get in my car and start looking, went to a small town and found a few old houses, knocked and got permission.

House one, looked good, was real old, but mega trashy, I got one merc dime 1941.....I didn't hang around long, too many other houses to check...

House two, almost as bad as one....no keepers between Jamie and I after an hour, so we headed across the street to house #3.......

We knocked and asked, she said my husband doesn't want anyone to detect, we smiled, thanked her, and as we walked away and she said "sir!" I turned around and said yes? She says go ahead and detect, its ok....sweet! That has only happened to me 3 times in all the door knocking I do, that is why it is IMPORANT to be polite, and thank them even if they say no. Her yard was small and only gave up one merc a 1917, and a few wheats.

When in her backyard I saw a guy walking into an old church across the street and he waved to me, so I went over to talk to him and got permission to hunt the church. I was about out of time but I rang over a bit of the church yard for about an hour and got the buffalo nickel, the indian and 3 more wheats.

So there was my saturday, once again door knocking DOES work!

Nice looking coins! The Buffalo looks really good. It amazes me how they can "keep" better lying in the dirt for years than in someones pocket or junk drawer. I have got to get a detector and soon!

thanks Hombre

Very nice finds for a one day hunt!
Good manners pays off again! :laughing7:

Congrats,
Dave

Politeness important...yes imperative, as you just proved.

It is easy to see why people will say no, there is nothing in it for them really, and possibly have had a bad experience with a previous not-so-neat digger.

Nice condition on the digs.

please and thank you.... it almost shocks people when my children use them.

Very nice coins ! Your persistence paid off (again), yes they are in great shape and cleaned up very nice ! :icon_thumright:

You've got really good technique as well as hunting savvy. Love the condition those coppers come out of the ground. And that 1917 Merc is in tremendous condition for having been dug! WAY TO GO! Obviously, knocking on doors works well, and you have the proof! Keep it up.

The Buffalo looks solid. That's a nice keeper. Hope the permission to dig extends to later dates so you can go back and get some more silver. Politeness rules...yet again!

that indian head looks good. good going on the permissions,
you know how to do it! good luck... JYD..

Nice for an unplanned hunt! You are so right on being polite even if denied permission!
Knocked on one door myself yesterday, said it was already detected but I left with 3 wheats, 1 Merc, 1 Rosie, 1 Washington silver quarter. Love hunted out yards!
