Having grown up to the North on Lake Huron I would see quite a bit of "asphalt" chucks dumped onto the shoreline (to stabilize it from erosion). The gravel within gets worn smooth over time and, depending on the elements, can turn yellowish in color. Not 100% on if this is the case but, if it's near a road and/or area that may have been protected, it could be just that.

Eh...the more I stare at that thing I am going to say its NOT a chuck of asphalt. It has to be a rock.
