Lake Okeechobee

Thought I might post this in the little used Florida section....does anyone know if Lake Okeechobee is off limits to detectors and is anyone planning to hunt the lake when the state drains it for irrigation? Thats an awfully old big lake to hunt, might be interesting.

I believe that MDing is not allowed there. Was told that Florida state owns submerged lands,even if the lakes dry up. Double check to make sure.

Good question. I read where a meteorite was found in Lake Okechobee decades ago. The problem seems that, like renourished beaches, anything worth finding is yards under manmade crap. I'm sure Uncle Sam is pretty touchy about digging in the dike. There ARE some 17th century forts in the area.
