A pretty morning at a lake a couple miles from the house. This is Lake Tolowa, actually an inland lagoon separated from the Pacific Ocean by a narrow sand bar. Because of the heavy rainfall on the northcoast this year, the county road department plowed a channel through the sand bar to the ocean bringing the water level down and preventing local flooding.

I catch some very nice sea run cutthroat trout from this lake.

Yeah buddy that's a good pic!

15 +/- miles from my house. Beautiful pic!!
I had no idea that lake had cutthroat trout...

Thanks for the compliments. This lake is connected to a larger lake (lagoon) by a narrow channel between the two. This other is called Lake Earl.

Yes OV, and pretty large ones at that. The biggest I’ve ever caught was 25” long. They are not very good tasting to me. The lake is a brackish lagoon and as such, give the fish a slightly muddy taste. Great fun for catch and release with barbless hooks. The lake also has various salmon and small flounder. While duck hunting some years ago, at the mouth of a small stream entering the lake, a sturgeon about six feet long rolled out of the water about 5 feet in front of me. Scared the dickens out of me.

Up the Winchuck around Ludlum house, sea run and native Cutthroat. Wheeler Creek is the best for fishing and gold. You can also access Wheeler creek from the south bank of the Chetco off the bomb site trail road.
You probably already knew that...:icon_thumright:
