I headed down the coast again for the weekend and the thrift stores down there don’t disappoint. Most were having sales and I picked this up at half price for $4 dollars. It’s a 10” Handarbeit 835S Silver footed bowl with repousse designs. It is thick and heavy. I will have to wait until I get home to weigh it but it is definitely 10+ ounces! Thrilled to score this one! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1518302971.063653.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1518302984.392376.webp

Nice find. That will look really sharp after a bit of polish.

Wow that’s awesome. I would have been shaking when I paid for it lol

Yeah!!! Love it

Beautiful bowl! I hate to admit it but I might have walked right by it because that sort of purple/green oil sheen-type coloring to the tarnish always makes me think silverplate. Now I wonder what I’ve missed by not checking everything.

Lol I made my girlfriend pay the time I made a big sterling score in a thrift, and I was terrified the whole time that the clerk would inspect it closer and say “I’m sorry, but I can’t sell this for that price”. My girlfriend could tell when she first walked up to me that I had found something awesome. So much for having a poker face.

Yeah I’ve been known to move price tags around to cover the marks! I’m not proud about it......

Wow it weighed in at 23.3 Troy ounces!

I was able to identify the maker though the marks. BTW Handarbeit means handmade in German.

Very cool. Are you thinking sell it as a bowl or as silver?

I bought a similar bowl a few years back at an antique mall. I'd have to dig through my records to see what I paid but it was priced like plate. Same style, different maker with same handerbeit & purity marks. Funny part was the booth it was in had a large chalk board with "We Buy Gold & Sterling" written on it.

Well that piece was only 83.5% pure silver, not 92.5% like Sterling!:laughing7:
