Today started out slow at the tot lot. There was someone sitting in the dark on the benches in the middle of the dark tot lot when I pulled in at 0615 AM, but I went in anyways.
It started raining a little and the guy left, still didn't find much though. I drove around for a little while and happen to see a new tear down site (1800s large house). It took a while, but I got a kind of a good silver reading and looked down at the dirt and gravel to see a silver edge sticking out of the ground. It was a 1918 Merc. After a little while I got a half way decent quarter signal so I started trying to chip through the hard ground and gravel and I saw a quarter size silver edge and the back of a barber quarter, "YES" first barber this year! It was a 1897 barber quarter and for some reason barbers are hard to find in this town. It was a short time later when I got a OK half /quarter reading. I chiseled through the vary hard ground again and saw part of an eagle from a barber coin that looked half size about 7" down. I went to the car to get my screw driver so I could chip the hard dirt from around the coin so I would not damage it. It turned out to be a 1900 barber half, last time I found one was 31 years ago WHOO HOO!! I also found an old heavy window latch from the house. Thanks for looking!
