I was too busy to go out this past weekend, but I got in three nice short hunts since last Thursday. The first place I went has been detected a lot. I managed a Merc, Buffalo and a few Wheats. I went out again Tuesday after work to a new place I have been wanting to try for a while now. It took a nice long conversation about the hobby and other interest, before he was comfortable with me looking around. I didn't get much time after talking, but found some Wheats, Rosie, Buffalo, a neat little sterling spoon ring and the Big Chinese 20 Cash Copper. I believe it was minted in 1903. I found one very similar last year. It is about the same size as a Large Cent. I went back to both places last night, spending about an hour & half between the two. The first place produced my 2nd Shield Nickel ever, it's an 1875 and I thought when It first came out of the ground it would clean up nice, but the soil really beats up the old nickels around here. You can barely read the date, but I'm happy with that. I went up the road and scored with a dateless SLQ and another 41 Merc, & some more wheats. I like these short evening hunts when they produce like this. HH David

Very nice finds Sooper Dave.

Plenty of great stuff there! Congrats on the Shield Nickel. That one I have yet to find. The Chinese copper is really cool. I have found one similar to yours. I believe they date to somewhere around 1900-1910?

Great finds David! Love the spoon ring! Still on my list... The rest of the stuff is icing on the cake! Seems like you always pull something good! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Wildcat. I hope you find a Shield Nickel soon. Do you have a picture of your Chinese copper? I would like to see it. Here is both of the ones I've found. The one on the left is from last year.

What kind of place did you go to, School, House, Cellar Hole, etc?

Thanks Erik! When I first saw the spoon ring it was dark, and thought it was another pull tab. Turned out to be a great little surprise :laughing7:

I forgot about the bottle I found in the picture is an A.S. Hinds from Portland Maine. I found another Hinds bottle about a month ago that had "Honey And Almond Cream" and was from Bloomfield New Jersey. I dug them both because they still had the caps on them.

You're welcome, Sooper Dave. Mine is a Ten Cash, Pei Yang, Chinese Dragon Coin produced by the Peiyang Arsenal in Tientsin.
Nick

Thanks Nick, That one is in nice shape. What is the size of the 10 Cash? The 20 is a little bigger than a half dollar. Do you know how old it is?
I like the verse you have as a signature.

Wow now thats what you call hunting.!

Depths of coins?

Great fins. Really like the SLQ

Depths of coins?

Most of what I find around here is between 4" - 8". But I have found a few coins at 10" - 12". I am very impressed with the Etrac's depth, I know have found more old nickels with it than my XLT.

Thanks, Dave. Mine measures to 1.25 inch diameter which is probably the same size as yours. I think they were minted in the first decade of the 1900s.
