hi went out detecting for an hour earlier, and among other things, found a minature axe head, size approx 1.5 inches long ,i inch deep and 0.5 inches thick. The head is made from lead,,and there is a square hole in the blunt side where I guess a wooden shaft went .
any ideas? poss a miniture tool? it seems too much work to just make a toy like this? weight is approx 80 grams...... :-/

Are you sure it's lead ? If it's heavier metal - could be a soldering tip .

Filled for a dipstick, like a pad for vibration/contact

Just an opinion, but I think it's resemblance to an axe head is coincidental. Why wouldn't they have given it the appearance of being sharp, and have the hole going in the correct direction for a handle? It seems almost more key-like or handle-like with a square drive... Of course neither of those are made of lead, so ???

couple of answers recon it may be a votive axe a resemblance of the real thing but tiny and not for use but as an offering, when buried or thrown in rivers not expected to be recovered. been done all through the ages by all accounts .
