Found this one today .. but is about the size of a shirt button in dia it has some remains of letters on outer edge (NU) rest is distorted,, and what appears to be a date of 1672? or 1721 or something along those lines center of almost appears to say (U ) an below it ( USC ) but it is small beat up and hard tell and the bottom side tapers like a twist off ? any how let me know what ya'll think ..happy huntinn

I think those are heads off old roofing nails. And they read so darn good you have to dig them.

The lead covers the head of the nail to make it water proof. They are used on corrugated metal roofs.

..and you're also right. They read very well....have to dig 'em every time!
