Thank youyou're going to dig lots of bits and pieces and scraps as you detect, it's all part of detecting. not everything old is collectable but all metal has a scrap value .
I think that there was a type of preserved bread tack that came in a lead/tin package of some sort. I find this stuff all the time when detecting 1860’s cabin sites. A experienced T-hunter once told me that if you find a bit of that stuff folded up to be sure and unfold it. He said that he had found coins inside numerous times. It seems that was a convenient way to keep coins together and maybe hide them?
