lead slug (looks like a eraser on a pecil) with 4 grooves?

found it detecting a old farm. Sorry- I can't do pics.. It is lead and shaped round like a pencil eraser. bit bigger though. It has 4 destint rings or grooves in it. one side is mushed up so must be a slug of sort. It was 8" underground. Does this sound like a musket shot?

It looks close.. but is more blunt on top, but is bit mushed too. It also has 4 grooves instead of 3. I imagine it could very well be one- Not sure why it's here in Wisconsin- but is. I guess I really don't know much about the war but should as It no doubt was important part of history. Thanks

It might be a wadcutter.If so it for punching neat round holes in targets.
