I went out this morning. It was below freezing all day. The first spot was just too cold and windy, I retreated to the truck after 15 minutes. I drove around a little bit, and ended up at the latest Honey Hole. It has some sheltered sunny areas, and I stuck to those.

Here is a picture of some classic mid-century Southern relics, costume jewelry, aluminum advertising thimble and Rebel flag lapel pin.

I found this quarter sized coin. Some cleaning revealed a 1955 South African coin. It’s slightly domed, maybe a lawnmower encounter.

I managed to score a dozen wheaties, and two war nickels.

I have found a couple of lead toys. I really like them. So it pains me greatly to tell you that I destroyed the best lead toy soldier, I’ve ever found. Sorry Subterranean.

I was detecting along, trying to find silver coins, but digging it all. I got a signal, and this lead toy soldier came out, when I rechecked the hole, the base was there.

Two feet away I got a similar but larger signal. Obviously I don’t know what I’m doing because I speared it with the shovel. I almost cried when I realized what I did.

Two more feet, and another signal. I was super careful this time, however, this one came out in pieces. Pre-broken, is the term.

Three lead toy soldiers in a 10’ x 10’ area. Here is a pic of all the pieces.

Some kid suffered a lead toy soldier spill. It was a really bad day for him.

Thanks for looking and good luck on your hunts.

That happens to the best of us. You found some cool stuff today.
It was -1 here this morning, they are calling for lows in the teens and single digits for the rest of this week. Our ground is now like concrete but it shouldn't last too long.
Glad you were able to get out and start the new year with a good hunt.

Congratualtions on the nice relic hunt! :occasion14:

Interesting hunt and a nice way to start the new year.

Day one- 2 Silvers.
What will the rest of the year bring?
Congratulations

It happens, I know, but it sure would have been nice to have that WW1 dough boy intact. Oh well, if that’s my biggest problem, then I don’t have any problems.

Wishing you the very best in 2018.

Be safe in the cold. Spring time will be here before you know it.

Great finds!! Ground right now is frozen rock solid and I am going stir crazy wanting to wave the dirt stick.

Those three together look kind of gruesome, actually. Nice finds.

Tom those are really cool and that they are all humpty dumpty you could put them back together for nice display pieces. I like winter detecting in the woods we just have to much snow that seems to stay for weeks then we get dumped on again. Winter to me is like someone coming into your living room and dimming the lights and turning the heat down and then grounding you for weeks at a time!!!!!Thanks for posting your finds stay safe and warm out there my friend. From the condition of those soldiers Id say ww2 caualties

Really great way to start the new year. Very good assortment of finds...cool relics and good coin finds!!

I am throwing it down for our man Tom. NO WAY in Hades he does NOT go over 100 silver coins for 2018. Zombie Apocalypse withstanding or an asteroid hitting the east coast. Get er' Done TOM!:headbang:

Tom, you're like a Blue Tick Hound on the scent of anything SILVER within 100 mile radius of you! You are definitely in the "zone" my friend. I know you are going to have a wonderful season in 2018. Keep after it mate! BTW, soldiers do sustain casualties when we are battling for treasure. Sorry about the injured toy. Darn fine looking toys and indeed that little tike was disappointed when they went AWOL! Adios buddy.:headbang:

Nice! Speaks a lot to the toys they were playing with in the 40s.That's been a fun site!

Great finds Tom. I can't imagine how you do that on freezing weather. I remember that when i was trying to hide away from the wind i found a gold ring. So it works :hello2:
But when I was searching on the snow I couldnt resist more than one hour.

Nice going on the silver, well done.

Detecting proverb: "One must remember to dig a little wider and deeper."

Those are some nice finds Tom. When I started in this hobby, Super Glue was my best friend. I'd give it a shot. Those would make some nice display pieces.
