Detector(s) used
Whites 5000D..Whites Classic 3 SL with Mr. Bill mods..Whites MXT...Minelab X-terra 705..Minelab Explorer SE Pro..Whites DFX..Minelab E-trac...Minelab CTX3030
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I have been using a Whites Classic 3 SL with the Mr. Bill Mods. for years, and the old Whites 5000D before that, wow kind of dating myself here...so its always been about the sounds for me, and just this week I bought what I think is a up grade to a Minelab X- Terra 705... just wondering if there is going to much of a Learning Curve going from the Classic 3 to the X-Terra 705...any thoughts.

There is always a certain learning curve when switching detectors. Your move is probably a bit more than most but it's worth it in the end. If you can afford it, I'd go all the way to an E-trac or CTX. They're much more versatile.

Well I have already bought the x-terra....are the e-trac ,s that much better....when and if I cant get the 705 down and its not really doing any better than what I had ...I,ll try the e-trac....a lot of people seam to like them....

I started with a 705 mastered that and sold it then I got a safari love that machine it ran circles around the 705 then I got an etrac. This machine is beyond the Safari way better and discrimination and way deeper I have found Silvers ,Indian Heads and over 30 wheats and a 1905 v in grounds that I've covered with both machines thoroughly I would say that the etrac is a great machine an easy to learn

The 705 won't disappoint you. It's probably the best kept secret in detecting.
And anyone that says they've mastered it didn't. I've had mine for several years, and I'm still exploring all that it can do.

If you are so inclined to move up, the 705 is a relatively good introduction to Minelab.
I have an FBS machine too. But even when that goes away in favor of an FBS2 unit (which is a V-Flex/FBS hybrid) the 705 stays right here.

I find plenty of old goodies with my 705. You just need to get your coil over it. This spring came late, but it's already been pretty successful. Here's a taste.

I've never hunted with a Classic 3, but can say this about the X-Terra 705... go slow, and don't go overboard trying to get the max out of it right away. While you are learning it, get Randy Horton's ebook to help you fill in the gaps and expand your understanding of the machine. Its no different than any other detector, in that each one has a language of its own. You will do fine with your new X-Terra.

On another note - that's a really nice looking button, Longhair!

well I got the x-terra 705 yesterday...took it out...and can get some of the things on it to work,,,the back light wont light up....and it wont go into the number 4 sitting on the perset dis. patterns ...called minelab, they ran me thou some reset things and it still didn't work...it will go from 1 to 3 but push it for 4 and it returns to 1..I think I am going to send it back...I did buy it used...the guy I bought it from off ebay said he would give me my money back on it...I guess that's what you get for going used....now I,ll be looking at new...any good deals out there....$729 is about all I see...
