My wife and I have always had different hobbies and have tended to always do our own thing, but after talking about how cool it would be to treasure hunt with metal detectors, we agreed that it was something that intrigued both of us and that we found interesting. The exercise and just being out in nature is just a bonus.
Well, we just got back from Pensacola Beach (I still have sand in my toes), from our first metal detecting attempt. I have read a little on the subject, listened to some podcasts and watched some YouTube videos. It is clear that there is much to learn and many different tools that can be used in addition to the metal detector itself.
We were only out for 2 hours or so, but we did find a coin! Just a '84 dime, but I already told her we need to save it and document it as our first official coin find. We found the other usual trash (screws, pull tabs from cans, bottle caps, etc), but that is all part of the learning process and the thrill of the hunt. I am looking forward to many years of this hobby with my wife Erin.
At the end of the day, we got some exercise, spent some quality time together and are 10 cents richer than we were before we started. It was a good day. I hope to be a frequent poster on this site and will definitely share any good finds.
Happy detecting everyone!
