Letter J

I was digging for bottles one day this week .The only thing I recovered to return home with is this piece .It is made of cast aluminum . It looks like the letter J of course but if so what does it belong to ?

Is that a small hole in the upper end? could have been a homemade fish hook. a size reference would be helpful.

Yes there are actually a hole at either end It appears that it was attached to something using those hole.It is about 5 inches long
