Light Bulbs

Metal detected for around 3.5 hours today at 2 schools, and 3 parks. My only keepers were $0.99 in clad, a key chain, and a plastic dinosaur. The ground was still a little frozen. While at a park I had some very weird finds. I found around 20 - 30 little broken light bulbs(flash light size or maybe a little bigger) at a play area(one of those big imagination station things). I'm sure there were a lot more that I didn't find. These were scattered all over the place. This didn't make any sense to me because there were no lights within about 100 ft of the area, and I highly doubt street lights use bulbs that small. Could it be someone trying to annoy people with metal detectors? Has anyone on here ever been in situations where it seemed like junk metal was placed everywhere just to annoy you? I think I remember reading somewhere that someone once found a piece of alluminum with a smiley face on it.

Usually find these in no small supply at carnival sites along with the cheap curtain hooks and the occasional dart tips. The curtain hooks don't give sound off but there's always enough to eyeball and I've had thousands.

If it's a carnival site then there should be one or two good areas where fall patterns from a few of the vomit rides exist. These can be quite rich in clad and occasional jewelry.

I knew a guy in Carlsbad (California) that had it out with another hunter who would take loads of corroded pennies and throw them where he would hunt. Finally he got fed up and chopped up a length of copper tubing and chucked the pieces out where the other guy would hunt. Finally the other fellow showed up with 'these cheap Mexican rings made of copper', and showed them to my friend, who just looked and didn't say anything.

I went hunting with my friend there, and came up with a nice silver medallion on a chain. When he asked where I found it, he told me it was right in front of where the other guy lived!

My guess is that kids got hold of a bunch of Christmas light bulbs and smashed them.
If you want to annoy me, throw a whole pile of pennies on the ground.
That's what some kids do, when they see a guy detecting.

Nugget hunting in brass tacks? I'd dig up the whole lot and pan for tacks. Might even find some gold!

I really like it when the drunken sailors throw money out thinking that they are being funny. I usually see them laughing with their friends as I pick it up. I'll tell them to throw dollars or quarters if they have them. Then they usually either shut up or throw more money out. Sometimes if they are really drunk this becomes a real hassle and you can't get away from these guys fast enough, but I have no qualms about picking up pennies. If someone wanted to throw out a whole roll, I'd pick them up one by one. It's all $ in the long run and it all goes into a bin to be counted up every once in a while and spent at a later date. I had been picking up the aluminum nuggets that are all over alot of the beaches I hunt and had collected about ten pounds with the intent of taking them in to the recycler for aluminum value on them. They had taken them the first time I took them up there, so I figured they would take them again. No such luck. I ended up trashing them at the recycler. In any case, I figure that if I keep these nuggets, that will just clean up the beaches I hunt to the point where they will be easier to hunt when I finally do get a chance to hunt them again. BTW, they do take all of the brass and copper items, so start a bin and take them in with your cans.
Folks who live at the beach are pushing once again to try and ban drinking on the beaches in So. Cal. during 4th of July. Too bad since this really helps to supply the sand with goodies. This is a typical situation though. Just like the folks who want to cut out our freedoms in the deserts.
Just more spoil sports who whine more at city hall then we do.

One of the local parks had an old timer who was really p.o.'ed when I started working it. He liked the playground there and I know why, it's a rich one. He threw snap rivets everywhere, small enough to go through a scoop and hard to see in the sand. Went on for over a year. Now he's swinging the big coil in the sky and it's so much easier for both of us I'm sure.
