I finally got a thumbs up from my wife, decided on a GT and ordered it! I have used a White's Spectrum that I bought new in 1991 and after reading many, many reviews, decided that a GT will suit my needs best. I live near Wilson, NC and am excited to get out with my new GT and search some of the old worn out sites in Goldsboro and around where we live as they plow the fields finally. I just had to share my excitement. Anyone with experience using the GT in the Eastern NC area, tips would be appreciated. I am also going to Onslow beach next week and will put the unit to the test in the sand. Bryan

Well Bryan, you're in for a treat if you take some time to learn her.

Like I said before, start with it in AUTO sensitivity DISCRIMINATE mode set to zero (full counterclockwise).

Put the notch at zero also unless the tabs drive you nuts.

Set her on THRESHOLD with just a slight hummm in the background. If that hummm nulls it's most likely trash.

When you get a signal, swing back-n-forth to center the target then while swinging move the coil toward you. Find the spot where the signal is loudest and at the top of the coil should be almost dead center on the target.

You can move along at a good speed until the detector lets out a bleep. Then stop and check the signal from 2 directions. If it has a chance of being good it will usually sound good from both directions.

Happy Hunting and name your first ring after me ;D

So ya got a SOVEREIGN you will love it.....I have used the first SOVEREIGN they made and have used them all the time. Went to other detectors and have always went back to my love the SOVEREIGN... I have used the top line in all makes and the EXPLORER and the EXCALIBUR... and i do not water hunt any more i sold the EXCALIBUR and the SOVEREIGN is better on the beach than the EXCALIBUR for it is the same as the EXCALIBUR ..only it has more Features.....The best detector out there to me is of course the SOVERIGN .....SOVEREIGN ....Good luck to you and happy hunting.............................
