lipo battery

Has anyone tried switching to a lipo ? Or even tried the ones that are the same size of a normal AA. I know there 3.2 volt each so if my normal battery count was 8 @ 1.5 volt = 12 volt then i could use 3 for 11.1 but when fully charged they would be 12.8 . I'm thinking i could cut some copper tube the same size of the batterys to fill the holes that are empty. Just a thought
