I dug this metal detecting in Atlanta GA in a ww2 veterans home how old could it be

It could be a dangle bead that came off a clothing/costume jewelry accessory.

Inside jingle/crotal balls are solid, and are usually iron.

Cool little recovery.

Man, I had to parse that 6 times before I could make any sense out of it! (Don't ask--my bad--not yours.) 🤣

My eyes again... I'm seeing indications the ball is solid (cast) brass, but I also think I see signs of plating separating from the ball...

I agree it looks more like a tiny bell itself. While I have seen fancy clappers, they've been on bells where the clapper was a prominent feature. It wouldn't make sense on a type of bell where the clapper is completely enclosed--nobody would ever see it.

-Cricket cage buttons.
-Filigree beads
-Ball buttons

Then there's the Middle Eastern twist for them also.

All basically tge same, just different names.
