✅ SOLVED Little brass thingee marked "OK." and "1853"

I picked this up a garage sale. It weighs 202 grams, is about 2.5" tall, and about 2" wide at its widest. It appears to be brass except the wire hook is copper. Is this some kind of counterweight? Anyone recognize this?

Counter weight seems right. I wonder what the "OK" and "1853" mean. Just a maker's mark?
