I found this yesterday. It is marked Sterling, but I am suspicious. I imagine it dates around 1910. I'm having trouble opening it and don't want to rush it. Any ideas?? What is this type of knife called? Pen knife? Thanks for looking. Crossing my fingers there is enough metal to sharpen it. Very cool. Personally I'd not open it and enjoy it how it is. Too great a chance of it falling apart if you force it, the blade has probably disentigrated at this point.

Nice recovery of the knife.
Try to clean up the case a bit with backing soda and water or tin foil and water to see if it comes up better.

Awesome find- don't see those popping up every day- Congrats!!

Nice little thing, but I'm doubtful that it's a knife. The handle looks too short. Small cases like this can hold all sorts of things but, usually they're grooming or manicure-related and hold something like a nail file with or without a cuticle pusher like this:

Other things too. This one has a ladies dance-card pencil in it:

Sometimes they contain haberdashery or sewing-related items too. Things like seam-pickers.

I'm too curious to not open it. I don't see a problem with it fitting back together, hopefully it won't be a pile of scrap soon.

Nice find I dont think it's a knife either but if its silver that's really cool . I found a silver knife with a naked lady on the handle the blade was toast. Keep us updated if you do get it open. Good job
