Just getting started with detecting but am enjoying it so far! Weather was nice in Maryland today so I went to local creek area and found a few things, mainly trash..

Anyone have an idea on what the 3 cent metal box would be I'd be interested to know. Was hoping the whole time I was cleaning mud off it that it would be filled with 1943 copper pennies but was just more mud.

Maybe for newspaper, stamp, candy, or other old vending boxes?

you got guts to hop in the creek...way to go !!

I think 2moshers nailed it...it's a coin slot/cover for a candy/novelty dispenser...I'd be hoping that it would be filled with trimes!! Lol...thx for sharing, Ddf

Wow !!! pretty cool, and interesting.
Nice finds.

Thanks for the replies and thoughts on the box, I will post an update if I ever get any more information!

Interesting find for sure. I would guess some type of coin slot for sure. Did you get that MX in the water or were they shore finds?
That is a pretty nice machine.

I wasnt in the water just on the edge but its one of the reasons why I bought the MX. Planning on taking it out in the Potomac river when it warms up!

that's cool, literally......get a waterproof pin-pointer, much help in the water environment...good luck, and be careful..

Cool finds! 1943 coppers would have been awesome :notworthy: I thought I found one once but it was magnetic. Turned out to be a plated steel one. Someone got me good, took half a century but they sure tricked me. Happy hunting!
