Logic

Think it's "The truth layeth at the bottom of the well"

and that makes it sound more like a case in point than a metaphor.

Perhaps someone was selling a land parcel and had promised active wells.

If it's "truth lies in a well" then "lies" has to be defined, correct?

If water in the well is the truth, what lies can it reveal?

If the well itself contains the truth, as indicated, then perhaps the water is the lie?

If the well is dry does the truth still lay within it?

in vino varitas ---or--- in wine there is truth --drunk foks don't "hold back " they speak their mind openly --and do not wieght their words. in other words want to see what folks "really" think of you get em drunk and find out.
