This is going to sound crazy, but I want to challenge myself this year. I am going to only use my Bounty Hunter Lonestar as my only detector. As of 010110, I will only use my Lonestar to hunt for the year. It will be hard to stay away from my Tesoro, and Whites machines, but I like to challenge myself.

Every since I joined TreasureNet, I have seen many people put down the Bounty Hunter as a serious machine. These people say it does not have the depth, and electronics to keep up with the other machines. I do own some very nice machines from other companies, and have found some very nice finds. But I want to prove to myself that my Lonestar can keep up with them, I really love this machine, and I want to challenge myself for this year. I will keep everyone informed on my finds through my post, and prove to myself that the Bounty Hunter is a very capable, and serious machine.

Although I don't have other detectors to compare it to, I know that my 505 is a great detector. Since your challenge to yourself is what I do every time I go out, I think you will have a great year. Good luck and many happy hunts to you.

Thanks capt1989, I will let you know how I do in the future. I mainly hunt parks, and some old homes in Guthrie Okla. and have done very well with my other machines. I have found enough gold and silver with the Lonestar to pay for it, and that is what counts.

Good luck, dirthunter! I too own several different brands of machines, and i find myself using the Bounty Hunters pretty often. I think Bounty Hunter has been waaaaay under-rated. They are awesome machines! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

EddieR,

I know what you mean, I love the other detectors, but I kept going back to the Lonestar. Every since I bought the Lonestar, I just reached for it everytime I went out. It is going to be hard to beat my last year finds with the Lonestar, since I found a 14k gold chain, and a very heavy 14k gold nugget pendant attached to it a few weeks ago. The Lonestar picked this up at five inches, and it is in excellent shape.

But, I want to prove to myself, that I do not need to spend thousands of dollars on detectors, like I have done. Since the Lonestar, the other machines are sitting collecting dust, not really,( they are in bags). I believe that it is the person, and research that finds the good stuff.

Ladies and Gents, I just purchased my first detector--A Lone Star. I am having some issues (I think) with the settings. I am only picking up pennies and dimes at the local parks. What should I set the sensitivity and the discriminator on? I would love to find all types of coins, and of course, any jewelry. I keep moving things this way and that way, but to no avail. I would appreciate any advice!

This will not be a challenge it will be a cakewalk! Best wishes for the new year. Hey apush congrats on the new tektor! As anything it takes practice. I don't have a lone star but keep learnin n diggin you will do fine!

Apush,

I will set my sensitivity as high as I can, without the machine falsing, I use the Auto Notch most of the time, but will use the All Metal mode, and listen to the tones. Make sure you don't overlook the low tones, I have found very small gold jewelery with low tones. It just takes practice, and in time your machine will be talking to you, and you will understand. Good luck, and happy hunting.

Deftone, Happy New Year.
