Long shot I know, but any idea what this brass piece is?

Not that it necessarily means anything, but this was found in the area of Civil War activity. It measures exactly 1 inch long x 5/8 of an inch across the flared ends and the ID of the hole is right at 1/2 of an inch.

What looks like printing in the one photo is just marks in the brass.

Looks like a spacer for something. Hope somebody knows, it's an interesting find. I edited my post to compliment you on the pictures. Great photos.

it does look like a spacer or stand off

I think it is a part of a old brass umbrella slide. Not sure just a guess.

A sheave or end roller on a fishing pole, I see marks evident of something, see where I point this out n the pics:
