I have done quite a bit of research and it looks like I will be squeezing the trigger on the X-70 in a couple of weeks. Going to go ahead and order a lower pole and the 6 inch 7.5khz coil as well for trashy areas.
Will be hunting mostly coins in trashy areas, plus CW relics in open fields and trashy sites. Also going to be hunting jewelry in trashy areas as well.

Anything else I might want to add up front?

Well, that all depends on the finances. Do you have a good digger (Lesche)? Pinpointer? Some folks use pinpointers some don't. I never did until I used one. You can make your own coin popper from a small screwdriver for public park coins just under the surface. I just got a 6" 7.5KHz a few days ago. I already know it's going to be the cats meow. You will probably want to consider some good quality earphones down the line. Boy, this hobby can get a little expensive if you let it. But, some stuff you just gotta have. ;D

I am not new to metal detecting. I have four other machines and plenty of gear. Just wanted an upgrade. Just wondering if there was any other accessories for the X-70 that I might need to look at.

That 6 inch coil is awesome, I think that is the option I would have recommended. You will LOVE the X-70. For the price you can't do better in my opinion...

So will the 6 inch 7.5khz be really good for finding the gold rings in trash?

It will, no problem. It hits hard on nickels and gold with good target seperation.

The 6" DD at 18.75 khz is better for gold, and better all around in trashy areas.

So should I go with the 6 inch coil in 7.5 khz or 18.75 khz for hunting silver, copper and gold within iron, foil and aluminum trash?

Swamphunter,

The way I understand it is the lower the freq the higher target freq it responds to and vise versa.

So a 3 Khz coil would be better on silver and a 18 khz better on lower conductive targets like gold (prospecting etc)

If you can swing a deal get all three coils freq.'s. Be forewarned a 3 Khz 9" concentric is a little heavier than the stock or 5X10" 18Khz DD.

It takes a little more effort to swing but really sniffs out the deep silver.

Your gonna love the 70.

Good Luck

PS. Some good info which really helped me, these guys really know their stuff http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,496344

That's the way I understood it too, but then Shenandoah Digger said it is better all around in trashy areas.
I might get another coil later down the road, but it wil be awhile. Probably just get the whole line of 6 inch coils and then maybe a larger one for covering the woods.

WOW! That site has alot of great information! Thanks for that link!

I can't wait to get the machine. Going to go back over alot of the places we have hunted and see what's still there.

The 18.75 is better in trashy areas than the 7.5-6 inch because it is a DD, thereby seeing less ground and having better target separation. In theory, the lower the frequency, the better sensitivity to high conductors, like silver, although the 18.75 does pretty well on silver. Ideally if Minelab made a six inch DD in 3 khz, it would be perfect for coin hunting, because it would be hot on silver, and ignore tiny iron better like the 9 inch-3khz coil. Decisions, decisions. That being said, if I was going to add accessory coils, I would start with the 7.5-6 inch, and then add the 10.5 inch at 7.5 khz if you plan on hunting fields or woods. The 7.5 frequency is very good all around. Must be-that's what the detector comes with.

Shenandoah Digger,
I got ya! Been reading alot of topics on the site that Fng68 posted and I am going with the 6" HF DD for my first coil purchase. It sounds like that is the coil I need for my trashy areas on coins and jewelry. I have two relic hunters, but this machine I am gearing more towards a good coin/jewelry shooter since the season on it is wider than CW relics. Just want to have a bit of it geared towards CW relics as well just in case I want to use it for that this year. I will keep adding coils as money allows.
I can't wait to get this machine. My brother in law is wanting one too, but I think he is going to wait until I get mine to see how it performs.

P.S. Thanks for all of the help everyone. I do appreciate it.

Well I think you'll definitely like the machine. I'm not much of a coin hunter, usually relic hunting, but it is a great coin finder in the 99 tone setting (28 really). For beat up CW sites, I use the prospecting mode and make some good finds where others say there are none. I just switch from prospecting to coin, and if there is no signal in coin mode, I make sure to dig it, because it's deep and probably something good. The 70 is the most underestimated machine out there. It'll do a lot of different things for you, and is really easy to learn. You've read it all-you'll be good with it out of the box. Good luck.
