Don't have a clue what this is but I thought it was really neat. As you can see it has a shine to it but we don't know if it's brass or gold. We thought it was a hood ornament because it is shaped like it wrapped around something.
You can see the size as it related to a quarter.
It has a little red and black paint flaking off it.
Any suggestions????

Theres several suggestions here:

If you had a piece of porcelain you could do a streak test, but if its gold plated then that wouldn't prove anything. Measuring the density, or specific gravity as mentioned on the webpage link above, is about the best way to tell if it could be gold. It would likely be an alloy, which would mean that it wouldn't have the same density, or specific gravity as pure gold, but it should be close.

Some links related to density and specific gravity:

I couldn't really tell much from the picture, other than it looked yellowish. If theres some markings on it, that information might be helpful.

WOW That is one great find. It would really be cool if you or hubby was a Leo. ;D

Neat find, maybe a bottle opener? Just kidding, I have no idea. HH, Mike
